Thanks for your post, brother. Your portrayal of your father shows the overwhelming grace of God. He was blessed to have you as his son, and you honor him with this post, not because he was perfect, but because he was redeemed. I led my mother to the Lord when she was 78. She slipped into a coma the next day and died a few days later. Praise God for the privilege he gave us. Thanks for sharing this.

I also held her hand as she took her last breath. What an honor.

My father was also a military man as a chosen career. He served Canada with distinction through World War 2 and the Korean Conflict. Most of his end game was as the Logistics Officer for the Edmonton Reserve Army. I say most because he left that post to serve as a United Nations Peace Observer in Israel finishing his career in the Canadian Armed Forces. Following in the heart of a servant, my father became the mayor of the small town he moved to and served that town for many years, again with distinction. He passed away a few years ago and I miss him still.

Thank you. He was a good man serving his generation to the best of his ability. I learned much from him about that.

It took the Life of Jesus in me to do the forgiving. In doing so, it changed the course of our relationship significantly. Now, he is my hero.
