I admire most of our country’s First Ladies. However, Laura Bush holds a special place in my heart! While serving her husband as one of the founders of his Faith-Based Initiative, I learned the truth of an old adage, “Behind every good man is a great woman.” This certainly is the case with Laura.
In our production, you will hear her own words as she shares the short version of her life story. As I reflect upon the life and contributions of Laura Bush, I am filled with deep admiration. Her grace, intelligence, and unwavering commitment to education and literacy have left an indelible mark on our world.
Due to my own struggles with literacy, Laura’s dedication to promoting literacy through initiatives like the National Book Festival immediately caught my attention and resonated with me. She understood that knowledge is a powerful tool—one that empowers individuals and transforms communities. Her passion for reading and learning inspired countless others to embrace the written word. For me, this was a lifelong struggle that ended in victory. In this, we found a common passion.
Beyond her advocacy work, Laura’s quiet strength during challenging times is like no other—whether as the First Lady of Texas or the United States—commands respect. Her compassion for those affected by global health issues, such as HIV/AIDS and malaria, exemplifies true leadership. She was the feet to her husband’s Faith-Based Initiative.
Laura Bush’s legacy extends far beyond political boundaries. She embodies the values of authentic faith, empathy, kindness, and service. Her love for family, her commitment to women’s causes, and her unwavering faith in Christ are qualities that inspire me daily.
In a world often marked by divisiveness, Laura’s ability to bridge gaps and foster understanding is a radiant light of hope in a troubled world. Her legacy reminds us that leadership is not about power, but about making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Thank you, Laura Bush, for your enduring impact and the example you set for me and generations to come.

“Leadership is not about popularity, it is about doing what is right. As parents, the most important thing we can do is read to our children early and often. Reading is the path to success in school and life. When children learn to love books, they learn to love learning.” — Laura Bush
Laura Bush’s life exemplifies dedication, compassion, and a tireless pursuit of positive change. While Laura will not go down in history as one of the more aggressive outspoken First Ladies, in my book, she will be remembered as a quiet-natured woman who packed a punch. Laura is indeed one of my top choices of classy First Ladies.
