SUBSTACK: An Outreach or IN Reach?
I have been asked on many occasions to explain my logic in specializing in online postings and deliberations. It’s simple!
I have been asked on many occasions to explain my logic in specializing in online postings and deliberations. It’s simple! The internet is my mission field. While most use the internet to “dump” their opinions, I use every self-learned technological advancement to cast seeds of Christ’s invitation to lead others to Jesus Christ for indwelling salvation. My flesh might like those little red hearts, but I aim to reach the masses with the Truth that sets people free.
THE BELIEVER’S PURPOSE OF SUBSTACK
Substack is an easy platform to snare the deeds of the flesh, particularly the overwhelming passion to be noticed and liked. Writers on this platform who claim indwelling salvation must adopt the great commission.
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” (Mark 16:15)
Readers AND writers, we need to join forces in using Substack and other social networks to do one thing - proclaim the Gospel. Don’t expect popularity - the Truth is, by human nature, offensive and narrow-minded. Meaning it will produce animosity in most readers; thus, you will be at the bottom of the “liked” list. So, expect a lack of popularity.
Our IM Writer’s Forum will soon launch a mission to unite authentic Christian writers. The objective is to multiply articles, media, and restacks of writers to advance the Gospel. For starters, you can do the following:
Subscribe to as many real-deal Christian writers who are focused on the Life and message of Jesus.
Put them on your recommendation list with a personal statement as to the “why” you recommend them.
Always, or when possible, click their “heart” icon, then leave a comment. Any comment will do; however, remember the comment will appear on the social network on “Notes.” Furthermore, the comment link IS the place to make your Gospel statement! Substack’s “Notes” is where we can advance Jesus the most. “Hearts” benefit the author, while comments benefit the hundreds of thousands on “Notes.”
When readers click the little red heart, it benefits no one outside of the author. Leaving a comment starts a discussion between the reader and the author - that is, IF you are responsible for replying to all comments. In this, the supposed purpose of authentic Christians using Substack comes to life.
I have a new motto: Restack and sin no more. When you restack a writer’s post, always use the “restack with a note” - then write a note that advances the writer while delivering seeds of Truth to those who read the restack. This is one of my “golden keys” to delivering the Truth. Plus, each time you do this, you reach their followers list. Before long, in Christ, you are reaching thousands daily.
Comment in Notes on as many of the posts as possible to start the evangelistic beginnings of new relationships. It works. Stay faithful in developing that relationship each time they post relevant content.
If you are a reader versus a writer, these guidelines of engagement are equally important. As a reader, you are our mission field. If you are already a believer, well done; however, it is your job to advance the Gospel on Substack. How do I know this? You’re on Substack.
In the future, I will share many “tricks of the trade” regarding authentic believers uniting within this platform. I am not only a “fan” of Substack, but I believe there is a miraculous opportunity to “love on” writers and readers through this platform.
Before closing, consider my challenge:
Satan has successfully used the world and all of its influences, particularly the internet, to bring a light-hearted attitude and mindset regarding the kingdom of darkness. Just take a look at the enormous volume of posts that are proliferating opinions, memes, hostile rhetoric, demonology, political biases, half-baked truths that miss the mark, and coarse, silly jesting that we are bombarded with wherever we turn!
The desensitization about Satan and his role in humanity’s sins is a subtle but strategic attack on God’s divine creation – His blessed children. The enemy of this world sees to it that the world (his domain) laughs him off with indifference as believers post on the internet. Always remember this callousness is the most powerful tool the enemy has in defusing God’s serious plan of redemption. Believers ought never to entertain crude posts, advance evil posts, or light-heartedly support Satan in any way. While believers need to exercise care in not assigning all of their wrongdoing as Satan’s responsibility, we must, with biblical insight, understand the limited power of Satan and his kingdom while understanding his primary venue - the internet. Oppression and bondage are not a joking matter. Once we view his domain as a mission field and not a “feel good” safe place, Jesus can accomplish a world of difference in Satan’s dark playground.
The key to the believer’s emphasis on spiritual warfare while reading or posting online must be based on a Biblical approach to the subject. Subjective feelings, emotional desires, and fervent sincerity are not sufficient weaponry against an enemy that laughs in the face of your intents. He yields no ground to emotion or sincerity. He retreats only from the authority and power that has been given to the believer through his/her union with the Lord Jesus Christ and the absolute TRUTH of the Word of God. This ordained TRUTH must apply to our new mission field of Substack.
An illustration worth remembering is this: If I gave you a sharp two-edged sword and a butter knife, which would you use to fight an assailant? Dumb question, right? I don’t think so! Your logical side would choose the sharp, two-edged sword. However, in reality, when we do not use the Word of God to fight off the enemy within his playground, we are essentially using a butter knife to war against an enemy that is strategic, purposeful, and well-equipped within his domain of darkness, who slings a ball and chain.
“Take . . . the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17b
We have three basic offensive weapons to use against Satan. They are the word of God, the power of prayer, and uniting as believers. No army can win a battle one on one. However, by uniting every believer and their spiritual gifting, we can do some serious damage to the enemy’s camp. When you put the three of these together, you have the most intimidating weapon known to the enemy. He knows he has been “had” when a believer of God masters the art of using the Word of God, the power of prayer, and the Body of Christ. Hey, I’m all about turning the tables on this relentless enemy! How about you?
Just as in preparing for battle in real life, it would not be wise for you to draw your sword and start fighting until you put on your armor. We need to learn how to do that practically. Only when we are battle-ready should we pick up our swords, pray, and fight. If interested, read my book, The Art of Spiritual Warfare.
I pray that you are beginning to see our critical need for the Word of God, prayer, AND uniting the Body of Christ on Substack. The sword of the Spirit, God’s Word, is living and active. These are not words within this post. They are life-giving Words from the mouth of a living God! Use your words - people die. Use God’s Words - they have an opportunity to live.
Let’s start this plan today! I appreciate the little red heart, but start your support by commenting - get a discussion going so that all who read our post will be motivated to engage. Remember, commenting is evangelism in action.
Let's get the discussion going. What are your thoughts on this post? Is Substack a platform for outreach or IN reach?
I have been reluctant to go to social media. You have inspired me to re-think this. I am thinking LinkedIn ( to influence the influencers) and Facebook ( to influence the influenced). Anyone else reluctant to do this?
