#9 Who Are You? | Knowing Identity Matters Podcast

Host: Dr. Stephen Phinney | This is not just a theological concept but a life-changing reality that shapes our perspective, drives our actions, and anchors our hope.

My Identity | Identity Determines Behavior

Personal identity plays a pivotal role in shaping behavior, influencing how we perceive ourselves and interact with the world, self, and God. Our sense of identity encompasses our beliefs, values, experiences, and social connections, forming a unique lens through which we view life.

This self-concept guides our decisions, actions, and responses to various situations, aligning our behavior with our internal sense of who we are within Yeshua or not. For example, someone who identifies strongly with being in Christ will likely engage in altruistic behaviors, while someone who sees themselves as a “failure” may punish themselves with the Bible. Understanding and embracing our personal identity can lead to more authentic and purposeful behavior, ultimately enriching our lives and relationship with Christ from within.

Embracing Our Identity in Christ Jesus

Knowing who you are in Christ is perhaps no aspect more transformative than understanding and embracing your identity in Christ. This chapter delves into the profound significance of a believer’s identity in Christ and its transformative power in our lives.

As believers, we are not defined by our past sins, our circumstances, or the labels the world may place on us. Instead, our true identity is found in Christ Jesus. We are His children, redeemed by His sacrifice and destined for His eternal kingdom. This is not just a theological concept but a life-changing reality that shapes our perspective, drives our actions, and anchors our hope.

Understanding our identity in Christ is like finding a compass in the wilderness. It directs our journey, brings clarity in times of confusion, and provides comfort in moments of despair. It reminds us that we are loved, identified, and purposed by God.

This chapter will explore the biblical foundations of our identity in Christ, understand its implications for our daily lives, and learn how to live out this identity in a world that often tries to define us otherwise. We will discover that our identity in Christ is not just about who we are but also about who He says we are.

As we embark on this journey of discovery, let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
