#84 My Life: Flesh Hates Fruit

Dr. Stephen Phinney: No matter how much ungodliness seeks to destroy or undermine who we are, light will continue to shine, and truth will prevail.

THE FLESH | REJECTS THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

Ungodly behavior, our flesh, despises the fruit of righteousness, for where righteousness flourishes, deception and corruption are exposed.

Darkness recoils at the presence of truth, integrity, and unwavering indwelling faith because they illuminate what it seeks to conceal. The ways of righteousness bring peace, justice, and goodness—qualities that stand in direct opposition to the forces of selfishness and wrongdoing.

Yet, despite the resistance, righteousness remains steadfast, bearing fruit that nourishes hearts and transforms lives. No matter how much ungodliness seeks to destroy or undermine it, light will continue to shine, and truth will prevail.

Romans 7:5: "For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were brought to light by the Law were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death."

This verse speaks to the consequences of sin and how, apart from Christ, sinful desires lead to spiritual death rather than life.

Suppressing the Life of Yeshua:

The consequence of walking after the flesh denies the reality of Yeshua.

Throughout Scripture, we are urged to walk by the Spirit from within and not by the flesh. The Apostle Paul warns in Romans 8:13 (NASB): "For if you are living in accord with the flesh, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live." This life-changing truth reveals a stark reality—when we give in to the desires of our flesh, we stifle the indwelling Life of Yeshua within us, ultimately resembling the unsaved masses who live apart from His transforming presence.

To walk after the flesh is to prioritize selfish desires, worldly ambitions, and temporary pleasures above the will of God. It is a life focused on gratifying the physical and emotional urges that pull us away from the righteousness we have been transformed into. This path may seem fulfilling for a moment, but it ultimately leads to spiritual emptiness, weakness, and separation from God's divine purpose. As Galatians 5:17 states: "For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want."

When we suppress the Life of Yeshua, we lose the power, joy, and holiness that come from abiding in Him. ABIDING IS EVERYTHING! Instead of reflecting His righteousness and love, we begin to mirror the brokenness, confusion, and moral compromise of the world. The unsaved live according to their own flesh-life, their understanding, seeking fulfillment in things that cannot satisfy. Likewise, when believers walk in the flesh, they abandon the eternal perspective and drift into the same patterns of emptiness.

Yet, there is hope. Yeshua has already won the victory over sin and death, and His Spirit within us is stronger than the pull of the flesh. If we surrender daily—choosing to crucify our worldly desires and embrace the transforming work of the Holy Spirit—we will experience the fullness of His Life. As Romans 12:2 reminds us: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."

The choice is ours: to follow the flesh and suppress the divine Life within us, or to yield to Yeshua and live in the power of His resurrection. May we continually seek His presence - inwardly, walk in His Spirit, and reflect His glory rather than blending into the unsaved world.
