#29 My Heart Undressed | Changes

IF NOTHING EVER CHANGES
By Jane Phinney
If Nothing Ever Changes
Will you still believe in Me?
If nothing ever changes
Will you still trust Me?
If nothing ever changes
Will you still seek Me in prayer?
If nothing ever changes
Will you still study My Truth?
If nothing ever changes
Will you still serve Me?
If nothing ever changes
Will you still honor Me?
If nothing ever changes
Will you still obey Me?
If nothing ever changes
Will you still serve others?
If nothing ever changes
Will you trust Me to take care of you?
If nothing ever changes
Will you still humble yourself?
If nothing ever changes
Will you keep forgiving?
If nothing ever changes
Will you lose hope?
If nothing ever changes
Will you still love Me?
If nothing ever changes
Is knowing Me enough?
I penned these words a few years ago when contemplating God’s timing in answering prayer. The Spirit “clobbered” me when I considered my motives. As the point-blank questions poured into my mind, I could hardly scribble them fast enough in my notebook. Did I seek change to make my life easier, or for God’s will to be accomplished? And did I hesitate to pray for His will because I assumed it would be hard? Ouch!
Today I had another epiphany of sorts. I realized these same questions applied in the opposite scenario too. If everything changed, I still grapple with the same soul issues. That was a humbling, on-my-face moment. Because so far, this year hasn’t been all that pleasant. Situations I didn’t see coming rocked my world. And my soul. Sometimes forward progress can feel backward. But if you aren’t the one driving you can’t put on the brakes. I ultimately cannot control change, be it all or nothing. I’ve concluded, again, that flesh is fickle & ONLY GOD is the stability in my life. (Isaiah 33:6) The wise choice would be to surrender to His control of both the speed & the brakes. Because fearing Him & seeking His will is what keeps my life on course.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday & today, yes & forever…For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed…God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man that he should repent; has He said, & will He not do it? Or has He spoken, & will He not make it good?...The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever…Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?”(Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8, Numbers 23:19, Isaiah 40:8, Jeremiah 32:27)
